When we received the brief for the design of this Hamptons home, the client kept it simple: “anything but color.”
She wanted black, white, gray, cream with a hint of blue. She wanted the house to feel like a beach house –– but an elegant one.
Brief:
For a young couple’s Sag Harbor retreat, Kim Dent x Campion Platt’s design looked to the future accommodating the clients’ request to create a child-friendly space. Guest Bedrooms could transition to Playrooms, and nothing was too precious to live in… Understated elegance came through in custom ironwork shelving, an encompassing hearth room with high ceilings, and a hand-blown glass stairway chandelier. But each furniture piece is disguised with durable materials, designed to last and live through happy messes.
At California Cool, our interiors were inspired by the laidback vibrancy of this family of seven.
Kim Dent x Casey Levy created a sense of comfort, love and artistry as vibrant as each family member.
Hidden deep within the forest of Telluride, this modern cabin stands strong amongst the aspens. Campion designed the furnishings to extend the natural wonder of the land indoors.
Campion Platt x Kim Dent Design x Casey project; a curated assemblage of unique and important works of art. All furnishings were custom designed by Kim Dent & Campion Platt and produced by local Detroit artisans.
Reviving my family’s classic Cape Cod on a beautiful pond turned into a full home renovation, weaving the modern with the nostalgic.
White walls were a perfect palette for folk art. The Great Room’s updated kitchen and living area serve as an elegant foil for historical details, restored antiques, and custom furniture…
Nothing could make me happier than seeing the next generation enjoy the indoors and out as much as I did here as a kid.
Campion Platt x Kim Dent x Casey Levy reinvented this primary bedroom.
We opened the bedroom to the bath and closet to make each corner of this suite an elevated design moment. Simple and comfortable elegance…
…a shower and water closet in the middle, her closet on the left, and his closets on the right.
Introducing the overlooked beauty of this mid-century house renovated by Kim Dent Design for her clients. The interiors of mid-century Michigan reflect a palette of earth tones, textures of black, white and gray, introducing color with works of art as a focal point. The area’s legacy of Eames, Saarinen, Knoll, and other master mid-century designers is reflected in the home’s furniture selection. More photos to come…
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
- Pablo Picasso.
Just a few hours from Manhattan, this getaway featured in Hamptons Cottages & Gardens is a world away from the city noise. Sitting on a pond filled with fish, swans, and blue herons, this serene family vacation home focuses on shared experience and memory making. Campion’s blue Turkish marble tiles and custom fire pit welcome visitors to the open dining space and entry vista. Outdoor lounge furniture, swings, and eating setups encourage use throughout the property’s private acre of land – and a walk-out lower-level is home to a kids’ bunk room paradise.
“The details are not the details. They make the design.”
- Charles Eames.
Sitting high above Turtle Lake, the spectacular views and sunset (photos coming soon!) is where the romance began for Kim Dent’s renovation of this three-story, five-bedroom residence. The re-creation of this old colonial ended up as a complete overhaul of the interior space which made way for a vision of an open yet classic home. Infused with her clients’ unique character and vast travels, Kim’s redesign incorporates finds from Switzerland and introduces new European pieces. Alpine luxury as sublime as the home’s lakeside surroundings, with a custom kitchen designed by Kim and Anthony Vitale.
My love of folk art goes wide and deep. As a child, my father would drag me out to every flea market, antique store, and estate sale. It was torture for a 10-year-old…except our adventures always ended in ice cream. My father would take me to our favorite ice cream shop where we would both sit and enjoy blue moon ice cream cones.
Then…we would sneak all the stuff home and hide it in the 3,000 sq ft. basement so my mother never saw it. That basement became my warehouse of treasures…my first shop! Instead of going out on a Saturday, I would paint my room a different color and redecorate it –– of course shopping in my basement. My father would come upstairs for the big reveal ~ he would sit on my bed and marvel at all of our treasures hanging on the walls. I would always incorporate his paintings to make him happy.
Those trips to antique stores did something to awaken my appreciation for American folk art. And decorating.
My first big furniture purchase was this 100 year old chair table. When I was 12 years old, I saved all of my babysitting money to buy this old American chair table from my father’s antique dealer friend. She gave it to me for a good price and it traveled with me to college and NYC.
It sits in my home still today.
